BOTSWANA
Botswana has a landscape defined by the Kalahari Desert, the sand terrain reaching depths of 500m plus and Okavango Delta, which becomes a lush animal habitat during the seasonal floods. Moremi Game Reserve (MGR) and Chobe National Park (CNP) are definitely the flagship of Safari experiences in Southern Africa and adding the unique ancient salt lakes of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans (these are not to be missed during our travels) makes for a complete Botswana Safari experience. In some of the most remote wildlife areas in the continent, we aim to give you a real ‘in the middle of nowhere’ experience and a good wildlife exposure.
Botswana has the largest elephant population on the continent numbering in excess of some 130 000. The country’s parks are known for their National Geographic sightings and not to miss during your visit is the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is best described as a vast inland river delta in northern Botswana and known for its sprawling grassy plains.
Shava Safaris is ready to take you for a great adventure that awaits you in Botswana.
ESWATINI
Eswatini , a small, landlocked monarchy in southern Africa, is known for its wilderness reserves and festivals showcasing traditional Swazi culture. Marking its norytheastern border with Mozambique and stretching down to South Africa, the Lebombo Mountains are a backdrop for nature reserves and national parks.
Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary will be our home for the next two nights and is Eswatini’s pioneer conservation area, a shining example of what is possible if passion, vision and action fuse. Once a highly profitable multi-purpose farm, and being labeled an “impossible dream”, Mlilwane was proclaimed in 1961 and is now the kingdom’s most popular eco-destination for locals and internationals alike.
The name ‘Mlilwane’ (‘Little Fire’ in siSwati) was derived from the numerous fires started by lightning strikes on the Mlilwane Hill but now holds significance as the little fire that ignited the conservation movement in Eswatini.
At Shava Safaris, we usually combine our trips of South Africa with Eswatini and Mozambique, a great combination to cover three countries on a single Safari.
KENYA & TANZANIA
Home of the KiSwahili, Kenya is a country in East Africa which encompasses savannah, lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. It’s also home to wildlife like lions, elephants and rhinos. From Nairobi, the capital, safaris visit the Maasai Mara Reserve, known for its annual animal migrations as they move from the plains of the Serengeti to Masai Mara in unprecedented numbers that exceed 1,6 million wildebeest and more than 600000 zebras. Amboseli National Park from which views of Tanzania’s 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro Africa’s highest mountain can be enjoyed is also not be left out when we talk of this safari.
On our classic Safari we double up the experience by combining our tour of Kenya with Tanzania which is known for its vast wilderness areas. They include the plains of Serengeti National Park, a safari mecca populated by the “big five” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), Ngorongoro crater and the seldom visited Lake Natron home to the largest flocks of Flamingo in the world.
Offshore lie the tropical islands of Zanzibar, with Arabic influences, with a marine park home to whale sharks and coral reefs.
Our tour at Shava Safaris aims to provide the best of experiences whilst visiting this region with us.
